Logging and palm oil company Korindo in the remote town of Asikie in Southern Papua brought very little economically to the local people while making profit from the cheap local workforce.

From April 23 to April 25, DC area activists are staging the Anticapitalathon Games. People are getting in shape and preparing for this epic contest that will coincide with the annual Spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank.

There will be a Run on the Bank, anticapitialist baseball and soccer, walking tours of Washington DC,workshops, and an elegant closing ceremony

The IMF's annual spring meetings have been going on here in Washington, and we aren't neccessarily going to call it business as usual. Greece is asking for a bailout, the global economy is still in a rut, and now more than ever, the power structures within the IMF itself are being questioned and challenged.

Finance ministers from around the world have descended on Washington, D.C. for the annual World Bank/IMF spring meetings. The annul gathering opened with the 20 finance ministers from the worlds leading economies. Top on their agenda were two new bank taxes, climate change and possible reforms to the institutions voting system.

On Saturday 10th April 2010, protesters sent a message to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who was giving a speech at the inaugural conference of the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) conference in Kings College, Cambridge.
